Smile

This is one of my favorite songs. I was going to briefly describe the origin of the song, but Wikipedia does a much better job than I can do......so here goes:
"Smile" is a song based on an instrumental theme used in the soundtrack for Charlie Chaplin's 1936 film Modern Times. Chaplin composed the music, inspired by Puccini's Tosca.[1] John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons added the lyrics and title in 1954.[2] In the lyrics, based on lines and themes from the film, the singer is telling the listener to cheer up and that there is always a bright tomorrow, just as long as they smile.

If ever we needed the message this song delivers, it's now. And......speaking of positivity, the ever-positive Chuck Gardner makes a guest appearance at the end of the video. Love to you all......

Mack the Knife

Recorded at Birraporetti's restaurant in Downtown Houston, late 2019. A great Bobby Darin tune that I get a lot of requests for....Thanks for watching and listening, Ray Rogers

Folsom Prison

This song needs no introduction, being one of the iconic songs of Johnny Cash's career. In the beginning, I was not a big Johnny Cash fan, but over the years, my appreciation for his unique style grew considerably. The thing that put me over the top is an album that he did near the end of his life that was just him and a guitar. It's really a masterpiece performed by a great storyteller with one of the most unique and recognizable voices in the history of Country Music. This song, "Folson Prison" is one of my most requested songs.

What a Wonderful World

Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong was something of an enigma. How could you compare his singing to Sinatra or Tony Bennett, yet I challenge you to find someone that can deliver a song any better than he can. I'm always so moved to hear him sing "What a wonderful world". "Satchmo" gained such notoriety as an entertainer that a lot of folks were unaware that he was one of the premier horn players of all time. He was an inventive trumpet and cornet player and was a foundational influence in jazz.
